DIGITAL CAMERA Tips: 8 megapixel digital camera

8 Megapixel Digital Camera

With more and more people becoming technologically savvy or “techie” these days, a lot of new gadgets are being released into the market. New smart phones/Androids, a variety of music players with different features, notebooks, laptops, and of course the typical mix and match; music player and mobile phone in one.

A lot of these new gizmos are hitting stores at a fast rate. Digital cameras are no exemption. Every month, it seems new digital camera models come out. With every new model introduced by manufacturers, new features are added, and the resolutions available get higher and higher (from an 8 megapixel digital camera to a 10-12 megapixel one).

Now most people are under the impression that the higher the resolution of the digital camera, the better. While it is undoubtedly good to have a camera with a high resolution (so we can have crisp and clear images), there is still that boundary between a good buy and just an impractical spend.

How can our purchase be considered impractical?

Well for starters, the newest camera models now have up to 12 megapixel for their resolution. These new higher resolution cameras do not come cheap. They are not in the reasonable price range for ordinary people.

Now we go back to why it is not necessarily very good if the resolution of the camera we have is the highest. The 9-12 megapixel range for camera resolutions are for people who want to print out big images. Poster sizes or more.

Typically, an 8 megapixel digital camera would suit most people. On average, the image produced by an 8 megapixel digital camera is of good quality and does not differ with what the higher resolution cameras produce.

The only way a difference would be seen is if one would print out sample images from each camera in a larger size (banner type), then without doubt the image from the 8 megapixel digital camera would look grainy compared to the higher resolution images produced by the newer models.

What can we do with an 8 megapixel digital camera? It basically allows us to edit/crop an image or zoom in without the quality of the image deteriorating. It gives us the best image quality we can have for typical print sizes.

It is significantly more affordable than the newer models which would serve us in the same way. More importantly, the quality of an image produced does not solely depend on the camera's resolution. Image quality would also be affected by what lens we use, features like optical zoom or optical image stabilization, and other enhancements digital cameras offer.

These are features an 8 megapixel digital camera usually has. So when shopping for a new camera and you have no idea which to get, the best choice would be an 8 megapixel digital camera.
